As I have read the "BLOGS" in our reading sessions, looked at the various "BLOG" videos, and viewed the
Interview with Principal Tim Bearden, I believe that having an online presence for administrators could have both advantages and disadvantages. I can see that having up to date information for all constituents of the school and community would be a tremendous help to all parties. Also, allowing the school and all of it's activities to be open to the community through "BLOGGING" could help erase the thoughts the we don't want the general public to know what we are doing. Consequently, sometimes information can be misleading to the general public if they are not well versed in daily school routine. Most of the time, parents know the daily routine, what to expect from their child's school, and what to expect from the administrators of the school, but the general public might be a little surprised by having too much information.
I think that any school employee, principal to classroom teacher, would need to be very professional with every item that was published with "BLOGGER." Since the information becomes public, it needs to be factual and not contain any personal feelings or thoughts. Wow, that is hard to do, because this entry contains my personal thoughts about "BLOGGING AS A PROFESSIONAL."
As for a way for me to use my own blog as a school employee, I could incorporate it into my teaching strategies to keep my students, their parents, and the general public (which includes potential employers) informed of the tasks being taught in my Auto Tech class at AHS. I think that having this information available to potential employers would be very valuable, so I am going to give it a test run and evaluate the feedback.
